Default Word 2003: How to reduce keystrokes select a template?

To get reach a template on 'My Computer', key Alt-File, New and then six (!)
tabs are required which is a backward step from Word 2000. To minimise mouse
use, if possible, I'd prefer an underlined letter in each menu item in the
'New Document' panel to allow any item to be reached by a single keystroke,
or the ability to re-order the menu items.

May I suggest that you can get this down somewhat by substituting the
FileNewDialog command for the New... command on the File menu?
