I think you are attempting to change your AutoText entries. To do that,
I would create the entry the way you want it and then press ALT+F3 to
get the Name dialog box up. Type in exactly the same name that you used
before and then press ENTER. When you do that, you will be prompted to
Redefine the AutoText entry - say YES.

If you have questions regarding what the name of the entry is, then from
the Insert menu, select AutoText, AutoText. What you see in the top
listing is the name, what you preview in the below dialog box is *close*
to what the entry actually looks like.

BTW - you can create any AutoText entry you like - even including
graphics, tables, numbered lists, etc.

The easiest way is to go to Insert/AutoText/AutoText, delete the old entries
and add those you prefer to use in the same dialog box as indicated.

Wouldn't it be a little strange to use something like Jane Doe (maiden name)
as the name for an AutoText entry but when it's entered in a document the
text is Jane Smith? ;-)

(When the AutoText entries for the user name and initials are automatically
created by Word the name of the AutoText entry is identical to text for the
entry.)

These AutoText entries (for the username and initials) are actually created
by Word itself from the User Info (I am perfectly sure I never created an
AutoText entry named SSB or containing that content--why would I bother?).
So the easiest thing to do is probably to go to Insert | AutoText | AutoText
and find the existing entries and delete them. If Word doesn't automatically
generate new ones, then they can be created manually if desired.
