Default "Auto text" list in Word 2003 is empty!

When i click on All Entries from the Auto text toolbar nothing happens. (it's
empty)
When i go via Insert - Auto text, the only entries in there are the ones i
created under 'Normal'.
I have also lost the ability to enter auto text in my footers, such as file
name, path, created by etc (although date, page no etc are still on the
footer toolbar.
This is really frustrating

Have you copied a personal template in place of normal.dot?
Only Word can create normal.dot. Rename the current one and Word will create
a new one c/w the default autotext entries. You can then use the organizer
to copy your personally created ones to the template.

If you renamed the template as I instructed, they are still in the renamed
template. You can open this in the organizer (ALT+F8 Organizer) and copy
from whatever the renamed normal.dot is now called to the new normal.dot
