Default "The document name or path is not valid"

I have been trying to access a Word documnet with Word 2003, and have been
getting the "document name or path is not valid" after entering my password !!

Hence I have tried the following link which gives a good description of the
issues at hand ........................
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/837016#kb2
I have also used 826864 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826864/)
How to troubleshoot damaged Word 2003
documents.

I have had no success with:

Force Word to Try to Recover a File
Open the File by Linking to It
Use the Recover Text from Any File Converter
Open the File in WordPad

I don't think these worked as my files are password protected
I am on the verge of loosing hope with recovery !
