Default Microsoft Word should let you minimize individual documents.

The 2003 Microsoft Office Editon of Word no longer allows you to minimize
individual documents. You only have the ability to minimize the entire
program or close individual documents / the entire program. As a writer, I
like to have several documents open at the same time, and need the minimize
feature to easily open, minimize and switch documents. I think is was a huge
mistake to eliminate the minimize button on individual documents and replace
it with the question text box. It would be incredibly beneficial to reinstall
the minimize button. Thank you.

Tools--Options, View tab. Uncheck Windows in taskbar. Minimize all you
want.

Ah! Thank you so much! Our department thought the command had been eliminated.

Anne has given you one option, but in fact you can minimize documents
anyway. Each document has its own window; you minimize the window to
minimize the document. See
