Default How do I change the color by author colors for reviewing?

I have a document that I am reviewing in Word 2002 with Track Changes on.
However the changes of another reviewer are coming up in the same color as my
changes. I have Color: By Author on in the Options but want to know how I can
change an Author's color.

Thanks

Unfortunately, when you select By Author, you're at Word's mercy.

You can't. When you choose "By author", Word chooses which
colors go with which authors. And the colors on one machine are
often different from the colors on another machine.

I have a similar problem. When me and another reviewer make changes in the
Word 2003 document, it shows our changes in blue and with our initials, but
when we go to save it, it shows them in red and with "A" for author. This is
a document sent to us from someone else. Is there anyway to fix this?

I also have the same problem. The file came from the original author, who
had tracked changes. When I make my changes they come up in the same color
as his changes.

I know this a year later response. However, I have been having this issue for
about two months now. FINALLY, after having a few other Admins working on
this with me, we found a solution.

In Word go to Tools.Options.Security. Uncheck the box that says "Remove
personal information from file properties on save." I hope this helps you as
it did me.

This is unchecked on my PC and I continue to have a problem seeing the color
that other editors used on a document. Everything appears in my default
colors. Are there are any other suggestions on ways to fix this problem?

Change your color setting to "By Author." You won't necessarily see the same
colors the other editors saw when they were working on the document, but
each editor will be assigned a different color.

Susan,

It seems that you don't understand the problem statement. My colors are set
"by author" yet both authors show up in the same color. Somehow the author
tracking gets corrupted. I haven't figured out how because it doesn't always
happen to me and I've had many documents where this never happened and others
where it has.

Dawn apparently has the same problem because her solution is mostly
successful -but not completely. I say mostly because it strips out the first
author's name and makes it a generic "Author. Subsequent author show up in
different colors and this info can be saved if the box is re-checked. I
haven't yet followed this through to adding a third author.

Option 2 - I sent the "problem" file to someone else and he had mulitple
author colors. He added comments and sent back to me. He showed up in a
second color but my comments were still in the first color (3 authors, two
colors). I then went to Options - User and change my "name." My edits are
now in a third color.

If you invoke the option to "Remove personal information from file
properties on save," all markup will be identified as "Author."
