Default Where does Word store custom buttons & macros?

. . .Where does MS Word (2000) hide . . . excuse me, store . . . custom
buttons and macros. I recently had to reinstall Windows XP (clean reinstall)
and, thereafter, reinstall MS Office. I dutifully saved all the template
files and copied them into the new Application Data / Microsoft / Templates
folder after reinstalling Office 2000. When I open Word, my custom templates
come up, and normal.dot is correct, but I no longer have my custom toolbar,
custom toolbar buttons, or letterhead macros.

I still have all my old Word program files (transferred all program files to
another HD before I reinstalled--just in case ). Does anyone know where I
can find my lost buttons and macros?

Unless you specifically saved them in another template, they should be saved
in Normal.dot. See

I hoped that they would be saved in Normal.dot, but my new installation is
using the Normal.dot file saved from my original installation, and the custom
toolbars, buttons, and macros do not show up.

Is there any way to do a file search to locate them? Any way to migrate
them from an inactive installation? (FYI, when I reinstalled Win XP, I did
not uininstall my old programs or format the drive. So, the "old"
installation is lurking, unregistered, somewhere on the HD, as well as saved
along with all the other documents & settings and program files on another
HD).

Postscript: MY BAD--I found them, right where they should be, in Normal.dot.
Because I did not uninstall OFFICE 2000 before reinstalling, the
applications & settings folder had two folders for me--the old and the new.
When I pasted in my file full of custom templates, I was pasting it into the
old (inactive) folder. The new installation had a virgin normal.dot file.

Gott ist gut and all is right with the world--at least until the next time I
have to reinstall everything.

Thank you much for prodding me into checking normal.dot more thoroughly.
