"Not registered" message in Word is getting me down!
I am running Word 2000 (9.0269 SP-3) on WinXP Pro/SP2.
When I open any existing document I get this message: "This document could not be registered. It will not be possible to create links from other documents to this document." I have checked for Blaster and viruses and spyware any other malware and my system is clean. I can not be certain about it but I think I started to have this problem after installing SP2 recently. What is causing this and how can I prevent it? William ======= Am asking again because this is a very annoying message and it is so distracting. |

"Not registered" message in Word is getting me down!
WM,
I found all kinds of things about this on discussions -- and no one every bothered to say how they finally fixed it! I had this going on for over a week. The fix finally was to re-install SP2. That was after trying everything else (and actually I re-installed SP2 after I had uninstalled and reinstalled all of my office programs.) You're misexec.exe is probably corrupted. Ignore any notes on trying to uncorrupt/fix it. I renamed it and reinstalled SP2 and things are working swimmingly now. If you haven't already tried reinstalling SP2 - do that before anything else. pf WM wrote: I am running Word 2000 (9.0269 SP-3) on WinXP Pro/SP2. FIRSTLY, I guess that re-applying SP2 means applying all the hotfixes again which came after SP2. Is that right? SECONDLY, maybe I can get a copy of misexec.exe and use that? On my C drive I have got MSIEXEC.EXE at these locations: 63KB 29AUG02 C:\WINDOWS\$MSI31Uninstall_KB893803$\ 76KB 04AUG04 C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386\ 77KB 21MAR05 C:\WINDOWS\system32\ 77KB 21MAR05 C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache\ Does anyone know which is the one in use and which one I should try? pf WM wrote: I am running Word 2000 (9.0269 SP-3) on WinXP Pro/SP2.
