Default Word 2003 Updating Fields

Word 2003 has suddenly started updating my date fields when I open old
documents. I do not want the dates to update, and previously they did not.
Does anyone know why this is happening now?

Default Word 2003 Updating Fields

Press Alt+F9 to toggle the field code and change DATE to CREATEDATE. Alt+F9
to toggle back and F9 to update.
