TOC - Changing Subsection Display Format
Hi Guys
I have been asked to re-format the TOC on the document I'm working on. At present we're showing 4 levels, though it's only level 2 - 4 that I have displaying on the TOC. My question is, can I remove the numbering prefixing the third level subsection i.e. remove 7.1.1 and 7.1.2 on the below example. Here's what it looks like now:- SECTION 7 GROWTH 7-1 7.1 Organic Growth...................................7-1 7.1.1 Weeds....................................7-2 7.1.2 Bulbs......................................7-2 Here's how they want it to look:- SECTION 7 GROWTH 7-1 7.1 Organic Growth...................................7-1 Weeds............................................. ..7-2 Bulbs............................................. ....7-2 Thanks for your help once again ) -- Lexy |

I'm assuming that you still want the numbering in the document, although you
want to exclude it from the table of contents? One way is to make use of TC fields instead of styles. To add the fields, you can use the Mark Table of Contents Entry dialog box (press Alt+Shift+O). TOC - Changing Subsection Display Format
Yes you're correct Stefan, they want this level of subsection numbering shown
within the document but not in the TOC. I'm not very experienced at this, so I am trying to ascertain how you would use these fields that you mention. Would I have to make a manual field code entry by the side of every one of these particular subsections within the document to alter their appearance in the TOC? There are literally thousands of them you see. Thank you for your patience. -- Lexy "Stefan Blom" wrote: I'm assuming that you still want the numbering in the document, although you want to exclude it from the table of contents? TOC - Changing Subsection Display Format
Yes, marking items for the TOC is a manual task, and in a long document it
will definitely be time-consuming. Perhaps it would be possible to automate it using a macro, but you would have to ask in a programming newsgroup such as microsoft.public.word.vba.general for assistance with that. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Lexy" wrote in message ...
