Default Style, font and font size disappeared

Hi,

I'm a long-time user of Word 2003. I've always noticed the style used, font
used and size of font being shown at the top of the page. Now they've all
disappeared. How can I get them back?

Thanks in advance,

Dan S

Either you have turned off the Toolbar or you have Adaptive menus selected.
Look under View Toolbars to see that the correct Toolbars are checked. Then
right-click on a toolbar, select Properties and change the settings to
Display all Menus turning of the crazy adaptive feature.

Either that... or he's switched to Word 2007, in which case, all is not
lost:

Possibly. But I'd hope that significant piece of information would have been
included...

Yeah, well... having worked the newsgroups for over a decade, we both know
how often significant pieces of information are actually included. ;-)

That must be interesting. I also used XyWrite "back in the day," but all I
had was the Help or maybe some manual that came with it? It was supplied to
me by a publisher that required me to use it, and IIRC, I had to pack it all
up and send it back when I finished the project.

Daniel

By coincidence, it was Herb's Word 6 Super Book that set me off with Word
having started with WordStar, transitioned poorly to Word 2 and new I had
huge gaps in how I used it. I spent many an hour studying its contents
during my commute to/from work.

I also started with WordStar but was mostly using WordPerfect when I started
with (initially) Word for Windows 2.0. I found Word so much more intuitive
from the outset that I don't recall needing much of a manual, but Word 2.0
(and Word 6.0) both came with rather complete manuals. Actually, Word 2.0
came with not only a thick manual for the whole app but also smaller manuals
for Graph, Equation Editor, and Draw, as well as a Quick Results Guide.
Those were the days!

Yes, I remember Office 4.3 suite needed a forklift when delivered and its

Office for Windows 95 was the first suite I had, and it was OEM and came
with no manual, so I bought a third-party book, which was just as useless as
most books are that try to cover all Office apps between two covers.

You're right there. Those combo books were usually 'jack of all trades,
master of none'.

I'm sure that with the retail Office 4.3 suite, apart from the obvious
install Quick Guide, all the other apps were in separate manuals - rather
like the suite!

Hi Herb,

Yes, Terry's suggestion worked.

Xywrite was fun because even a novice (me) could create applets.

I seem to have set off a thread of remembrances and nostalgia.
