Default unwanted floating toolbars always show when doc opens

Despite manually closing floating toolbars using the close box and then
saving the doc, the floating toolbars keep showing up whenever this
particular document is re-opened. How do I stop the toolbars showing when doc
is opened (Word 2003)

Merely opening the document and closing the toolbars may not be seen as a
change to save. Add a character to the text space and delete it. Check that
there's an entry in the undo list, then save. If that doesn't fix it, what
are the toolbars?

That didn't fix the problem. The two toolbars are "Control toolbox" and a
toolbar with only a single button on it (exit design mode).

You need to exit design mode, then Spacebar, Backspace, Save, and close.

That specific pair of toolbars always appears under the following
circumstances:
- the document contains either an object inserted from the Control Toolbox
or a macro
and
- the macro security level is set to High (or it's set to Medium and you
click the Disable button in the macro warning dialog).

If you don't have any controls in the document, and you don't know or don't
care what macros are in it, you can "clean" the document by saving it as
Rich Text Format (change the "Save as type" box in the File Save As
dialog), closing and reopening the RTF file, and saving it again as a Word
(.doc) file.

If it has macros and you need them, then the macros should be moved to the
template on which the document is based. Then you'll need to do the RTF
cleaning routine on the document (even if you remove all macros from the
document, Word doesn't "forget" they were there).

Thanks. Changing the macro security level to medium (and then enabling macros
on opening) has stopped these two toolbars mysteriously appearing each time
the doc was opened. I don't use (any more) macros in this doc, so will try
cleaning it up via the rtf procedure as well. thanks.
