Default How to prevent word from changing format of a document?

I opened a previously saved word document. Within a few seconds, word 2003
automatically changed the format. It shrunk the contents to fit only 75% of
the page, rather than 100%. So most of the text is in the top right portion
of the page, with a large right and bottom margin. This will occur before
any changes to the document. I have tried scaling the document to page size
when printing but that does not help. I would appreciate any assistance.

Thanks,
Jess
