Auto Text not updating in Word 2003
In Word 2003, if you insert the AutoText "Filename and path" in a document
and save the file, when the file is moved from one directory to another, the "Filename and path" is not automatically updated in the document. For example, if I create a document in F:\Docs\Test.doc that I've insert "Filename and path" and then move that document to C:\Temp, the "Filename and path" still shows up as F:\Docs\Test.doc, not C:\Temp\Test.doc as I would expect. Tried this same feature in Excel 2003 and it does update the "filename and path" information to reflect the new document location. Is there a setting in Word 2003 I'm overlooking that would allow the update to occur automatically? Currently my users are deleting and re-inserting the AutoText when they need to move a document. Thanks! |

It won't update automatically, but you can use F9 to update it manually.

See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=832897 "The FILENAME field
does not automatically update when you open a document in Word 2002 or Word 2003". Hi Anne,
Thank you for your response. The Print and Print Preview actions did not make a difference. Using F9 does work. Thanks again! Valerie "Anne Troy" wrote: Hi, Val.
