Default Auto-Insert CHECK BOXES on right margin / modified bulleting style

Hello and help, please

I am creating a lengthy document containing a number of checklists.

My preferred format for the checklists is...
1. Contact so-and-so . . . . . . . . . [ ] (checkbox)
2. Respond to such-and-such . . . [ ]
3. Shutdown the this-and-that:
......a. insert tab A in slot b . . . . . [ ]
......b. force square peg into . . . . [ ]
..........round hole
......c. turn the whirlygig count-. . .[ ]
..........clockwise 3 turns
4. Contact the command center . .[ ]
.....via the radio and advise the
.....this-and-that has been secured

What I'd like is a style template that will automatically insert these
checkboxes (flush right, aligned) in conjunction with the first line of each
step (note that some of the steps span across multiple lines, but the
checkboxes are with the first line).

My first go at this used a two-column table, which in the end (visually)
does the trick. However, it is a pain in the kiester to set up / edit. A
Style that auto-inserted these would be much more convenient, and breaking
away from tables could conceiveably save me some grief.

Your suggestions are welcome.

I would use a three column table with the checkbox in a narrow column on the
right and a number (from the numbering icon) inserted into the first column.
Then copy and paste the row as many times as required, entering the required
text in the middle column.

Hope this helps.
