Two problems:
1. Objects formatted as "inline with text" cannot be rotated or
flipped. Right-click on the text box and choose a different text
wrapping option.
2. Text inside a text box will not flip with the text box (the text
will remain right-side-up). See
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/DrwGrp...deDownText.htm and
http://www.gmayor.com/rotate_text.htm for other approaches.

Text boxes can't be rotated or flipped. You can add text to AutoShapes &
Flip/Rotate them, but the text in them will not be affected.

so there's no way to have some of your text appear upside down in one place
on a page, and right side up on the same page (say in a separate column)??

graciously awaiting...

You can do that with WordArt... just drag the controls so that you get
normal text instead of stylized text.

Or, perhaps simpler (although the quality can vary) is to copy the original
textbox to the clipboard, then use Edit - Paste Special to paste it as a
picture, then drag/rotate the picture as desired.

Text in text boxes can be rotated 90 degrees right or left but not
upside-down. See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/DrwGrphcs/UpsideDownText.htm and
http://www.gmayor.com/rotate_text.htm

The solution is to type your text into MS Paint, then:
1. select menu item "Image".
2. select "Flip/Rotate".
3. Then select "Rotate by angle" and select 180.

This results in the inverted text image you want.

Now, just copy and paste the image into your Word doc or wherever.
