Finding words that are 34 characters or higher--search expression
Hello. I'm trying to get Word to automatically identify for me (through a
search) words that are 34 characters or higher (NOTE: Each word is separated by a paragraph mark...it's essentially a long list 350 pages long). My search routines thus far have not produced satisfactory results. The searches I have been running include a wildcard search trying the greater than or less than signs and including character signs (?). The trouble here is that Word still picks up characters from the PREVIOUS word and line, so it's not a clean search. I'm trying to get Word to search, line-by-line, whether there are words greater than or equal to 34 characters. The wildcard search also includes and expression option, but I'm unsure about how to write the expression. Any ideas and thanx! |

Finding words that are 34 characters or higher--search expression
Check the 'Use wildcards' checkbox and use: [!^013 ]{34,}
Translation: find any sequence of 34 or more characters that are not spaces or paragraph marks. Depending on what you're trying to do with this list, you might find it easier to work in Excel. Put the words in one column; in another column use the Len() function to display the word lengths, then sort on that. "erik_gregory" wrote in message ... Hello.
