Default All I want to do is protect my Word document. Why is XP so diffe.

You start off with a Volkswagen, then you end up with a Space Shuttle on its
way to another galaxy. All I want is a nice, simple Word program. I need to
protect my Word document. Now, under XP, when I click on Protect Document, I
get a pop-up menu that is darkened. I can't even choose anything in this
darned menu. And I can't protect anything. I do not have time to go thru
the 53-minute training course available online to teach me how to protect my
word document. I knew how to do it before. Bottom line is, now it doesn't
work. I do not need to go to another galaxy. I do not need all these bells
and whistles. I am at work, and this Word program is not at work for me.
Everyone has fits when you guys come up with a new operating system, and this
is why. Can't you keep it simple? What is so wrong with keeping things
simple? Half of our Access programs don't work anymore under XP either. All
I want to do is protect my Word document !!!!!

Word hasn't been a nice simple program for a long time. It is huge. It
requires an investment of time and effort to use it well.

Word XP and 2003 added new ways to protect documents, so it became more
complex.

If protecting for forms, you could try displaying the Forms toolbar and
clicking on the little padlock button.

If you're trying to protect a form, you can use the padlock button on the
forms toolbar. If you need to protect specific sections for forms, then
click in the "Editing restrictions" box and then choose "Filling in forms."
You can also (in the same way) protect the document for track changes or
comments. When you finish selecting the desired type of protection, click
the "Yes, Start Enforcing Protection" button. I agree that this is
byzantine; I had to figure it out by trial and error.
