Default How to refer/track a paragraph number within the document?

In Microsoft Word 2002, how does the user create a link from text to a
paragraph number, where if the paragraph number changes, the text reference
tracks that change. For example, say paragraph number 2.3.3 is referenced in
paragraph 3.5. Now, suppose paragraph 2.3.1 is deleted. Paragraph 2.3.3
then becomes 2.3.2, and this change is tracked in paragraph 3.5.

You can insert a cross reference. See this article for details. Start at
Step 3, and use Numbered Item from the dropdown (instead of bookmark).
