There might be a 'clever' way of doing this, but if it was me, I'd just
select the block of text I wanted to indent, and drag the 'Left Indent'
markers on the Ruler at the top of the screen in a little bit.
(Word2000)

Cheers,

Chris.

Another method is to use the Paragraph dialog box (which makes it
easier to set an exact value): On the Format menu, click Paragraph.
Click the Indents and Spacing tab. At "Indentation," specify the
desired value for "Left."

For long documents, applying a style with the appropriately defined
indentation is the best approach. See:

Just adding to what Stefan suggested, you may also want to apply a Right
Indent as well to attain what would be called an "Inset Quote" - has a nice
effect

I use a paragraph style. I use body text for my basic style so I based the
quotation style on it. It is indented left and right, has single line
spacing, and is a smaller font size than body text. The setting for
following paragraph is body text, but could be the quotation style. I tend
to just type the quotations and then select the paragarphs and apply the
style.

If you are writing anything important where you may be making changes in
your formatting, you want to use styles rather than direct formatting. That
way you can change the look of all of your quotations (or headings or body
text) at once. http://addbalance.com/usersguide/styles.htm

Apply the built-in Block Text style, which has left and right indents built
in. You may find that these indents are excessive. If so, change them using
the ruler or the Format | Paragraph dialog, then update the style to match
the formatting.
