I need to get rid of initial help screen in word
When I open a document in office 2003, the help screen automatically loads as
well. I've tried reseting the view and tools settings, but it keeps coming back. How do I get it to only appear when I call on it? |

Hi ?B?dHJpc2ggaW4gY2hhdHQ=?=,
When I open a document in office 2003, the help screen automatically loads as well. I've tried reseting the view and tools settings, but it keeps coming back. By "Help screen" do you mean the Help task pane? Have you tried turning that off, then closing Word? If you hold down the CTRL key when starting Word, do you still see the same behavior, or does it change? by turning off the pane do you mean clicking on the "close" button? If so,
then yes, yes & when I hold CTRL I get a message box asking me if I want to open Word in "safe mode." If I open a new document, the pane goes away even if I haven't closed it out. If I close it out, it stays gone until I exit Word & re-enter. I can get rid of it during use. It's mostly annoying that I have to take the time to deal with it at all when I don't need it. If you're referring to the Getting Started task pane, then there may be a
check box at the bottom of it for "Show at startup." Clear this check box if you don't want to see the task pane. If you've already done that and are still getting it, you need the TaskPaneController add-in from http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customizat...owTaskPane.htm -- Suzanne S. Thanks. Actually, the check box wasn't there. But when I added the Tsk Pane
Controller, it seemed to work! Isn't Microsoft fun! "Suzanne S. Yes, when I looked, I couldn't find the check box myself, either. I know
there used to be a check box; I guess there must have been one in Word 2002 (but it often didn't work, anyway). -- Suzanne S.
