Default Is paste special the only way to insert unformatted text

It seems that "insert file" maintains the formatting of the original text.
Is there any way other than copying and then using "paste special" and then
clicking "unformatted"????? This could be a great pain for larger files.

You can open the original file, save as plain text, then insert that.

I tried it, but the inserted text does not follow in format of the parent
document.

Your message header says you want to insert unformatted text. Seems bizarre
now to complain that you've lost formatting. What do you *really* want to
do?
