Default Splitting a screen vertically

How can I split my screen up and down, down the middle, in other words.
I want to call up two different documents on each side next to each
other. Close enough to cut and paste back and forth. Don't want a lot
of boxes or borders, so two different windows isn't what I seek. Make
sense? Using Word 2003.

Use the Window | Compare Side by Side feature in Word 2003.

But the text in each Window is not reduced/justifed/squeezed to fit in
the now split windows. You have to change margins and then change
margins back again. Or scroll sideways. This used to be a pretty common
fuction years ago. I assume cost or some other not user-related reason
forced MSFT to abandon this?

You can always use "Wrap to window" or change the Zoom.
