Opening a recovered document
Thanks for your answer, unfortunately none of those options worked. I guess
the file has had a major corruption. Looks like it's back to the start again. Thx anyway. -- Pip Langford "Graham Mayor" wrote: If the last saved document is in the folder and there are no associated temporary files (http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm ) you should be able to open the saved document or the recovered document from the File Open menu (Word 2007 - Office Button Open). You may still get an error message if the file is cortrupt, but it shouldn't refer to the document name/path. That message is usually an indication that the file registration has gone awry - see how to re-register Word when problems crop up opening files http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ReRegisterWord.htm and if that doesn't fix it select a document in Windows Explorer, right click and choose Open with... From the ensuing dialog select Word (winword.exe) and check the box to always open with this application. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Pip Langford wrote: Hi - I had just finished working on a very large Word doc (60Mb!) when Word crashed. It did an auto recovery of the document which appears that it has saved okay in the same folder I had it saved originally - I had luckily saved the document just before it crashed - but I cannot open the file now, I get an error message that says 'the document name or path is not valid'. Can someone please help - otherwise I have to revert to a back-up copy and recreate three hours of solid work! :-( Thanks. |
