We have a template set up for a letterhead. The left hand margin is set to
print 2cm from the edge of the paper, but when the letter prints the text
starts 3cm from the left hand side of the page. Does any one know what i am
doing wrong

This could be caused by several different factors:

Is there any indentation applied to text?

Is the paper format correctly specified in the Page Setup dialog box?

Also, are you getting any error messages as you print? For example,
sometimes you are getting a message that the margins are outside the
printable area. Although 2 cm seems large enough, it could be worth finding
out the smallest margins allowed (for instructions, see
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/formatting...DontPrint.htm).

If the problem is with the printer driver, updating it (from the
manufacturer's website) or simply reinstalling it might help.

No there is no Indentation applied to the text

In the paper set up dialog box the left margin is showing at 2cm and right
margin at 2cm - the Gutter at 0cm and position Left - and getting no error
messages

do you think then it is something to do with the printer

Just another thought - since it's letterhead...

Is there any side header content on the left side - either text, graphic or
both? If so the Text Wrapping may be forcing the body content to the right.
