Default Vertical Alignment in Text Box

Word offers only Top alignment for text in text boxes. You can either add
some Spacing Before or fill the text box with a single table cell and set
the desired vertical alignment in it.

Hi Shelly,

To modify Suzanne's reply with a condition, if you're using Word 2007 and saving in .DocX (new file format) Word 2007 includes a
built in vertical alignment capability (right click on the text box and choose
Format Textbox=Textbox, or click on the launcher (square at bottom right) on the 'Text Box Styles' dialog in the Text Box
Tools=Format Ribbon.

My situation is that the text is automatically centering itself vertically in
the text box. Apparently, that's unusual because I am told that Word only
does Top alignment in text boxes. I will try what you have suggested. Thank
you!
