Default File Conversion - Text encoding issue

I have a file (*.doc) that when attempting to open, word brings up a file
conversion dialogue box and asks me to select text encoding. I have gone
through all of the possible options but the text still does not display
properly. Other documents open up properly with no problems. This
particular file what last used only a week ago.

Thanks for any help.

If http://www.gmayor.com/Problems_opening_2007_docs.htm is not the issue,
then it is probable that the document is corrupt. Do you have the option set
to automatically save backups (if not set it now for use with future
documents)? Can you open the backup?

I tried your advise but to no avail. I am beginning to suspect the file is
corrupt. Unfortunately, I didn't have auto backup set. I do now.

thanks for the help. I'll just have to move on without that file.
