Default When adding pages , can reference to pages change automatically?

When adding pages to a numbered text, is there any way that references to
pages within the text can be made to change automatically? In other words, if
within the text it says to refer to page 98 and then 3 pages are inserted so
that page 98 becomes page 101, is there any way the reference can be made to
change to p. 101 besides going in and manually making the change?

Hi JWH.

If you use an in-built Heading Style, and insert a cross-reference (via Insert|Cross-reference|Headings) to that, the page numbers
will update automatically as pages are added/deleted. the same applies to all the other features you'll see in the
Insert|Cross-reference dialogue box.

When you use Insert | Cross-reference to insert a cross-reference to the
page number of a heading, numbered item, bookmark, or other specified item,
the cross-reference is dynamic. REF fields don't update entirely
automatically, but they will update whenever fields are updated (at print
time, for example).

.... adding to Suzanne's response -- the "Update fields" box should be checked
in Tools - Options - Print to enable auto update when printing. You can also
manually update the reference(s) by selecting it individually or selecting
the entire document (Ctrl+A) and pressing "F9".
