Protecting a fillable form
I have two fillable forms that I created in Word 97-2003 and password
protected. We upgraded to Word 2007 this summer and I now have some changes that need to be made. I am able to unprotect the documents and make the changes but can no longer protect the document. Do you have any suggestions? |

Protecting a fillable form
Forms created in earlier Word versions still work in Word 2007. Is the
problem that you cannot find the protection functionality? In that case: 1. You need to display the Developer tab. If it is not visible, select Office button Word Options Popular category turn on €śShow Developer tab in the Ribbon€ť. 2. On the Developer tab, click Protect Document. Now you will se the pane known from Word 2003, where you can define how to protect the form. If the above is in place and if you the problem is that the €śYes, Start Enforcing Protection€ť button is disabled, the reason is most likely that Design Mode is turned on (also on the Developer tab). In that case, turn it of. -- Regards Lene Fredborg - Microsoft MVP (Word) DocTools - Denmark www.thedoctools.com Document automation - add-ins, macros and templates for Microsoft Word "SFisher" wrote: I have two fillable forms that I created in Word 97-2003 and password protected. Protecting a fillable form
HOw did you manage to unprotect them? I'm trying to unprotect them, but it
will not let me. These forms were created in Word 97-2003, with the text boxes. I can type in the text boxes, but nowhere else. I've checked the Protect menu, and Word 2007 says they are not protected. When I still had Word 97-2003, I could open the file in that, they would show up as protected, then unprotect them in that, save it, and then they were unprotected in Word '07, but I don't have that option anymore. Protecting a fillable form
I don't think these forms have a password. They are from NC Schools website,
EC department (http://www.ncpublicschools.org/ec/po...ms/statewide/). When I open them in using Word XP, and unprotect them, it does not ask for a password, it's just a matter of turning of the document protection. I've tried doing the same in Word 2007, but it doesn't seem to work. I tried the other suggestion in the developer toolbar, the Design Toolbar, bu that is greyed out (turned off?). Protecting a fillable form
Although there are other approaches, the simplest thing to do (because the
Protect/Unprotect Form button was omitted from the Legacy Forms palette) is to put that padlock button on your QAT. Find it under Office Button | Word Options | Customize | All Commands: Lock. -- Suzanne S.
