Default Footnotes in Word 2007

Whenever I place a footnote into a Word 2007 document I'm getting an
irritating line appearing that appears on the line above to the right hand
side.
How do I get rid of this line, please?

If you _really_ don't want the Footnote Separator (which is entirely
standard when using footnotes), go to Draft View, References tab, Show
Notes, and in the dropdown at the top of the footnote pane that opens,
choose Footnote Separator and do with it what you will.

Thanks very much. I am red faced. I was puzzled because the line was right
justified (and I didn't immediately think 'Separator'). Now that I'm left
justified again all is well. But I appreciate your quick response.

See http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/NoteSeparators.htm, but note that if
the footnote separator is really on the right side, then this suggests
you've done something weird with your Normal style.

Thanks Suzanne. I'm red faced 'cos I didn't realize that my Separator was
showing right justified because of a justification error. When I sorted that
all returns to normal!
Best wishes

I can understand your confusion. It took me years to figure out that the
separator in some ancient letter templates (ones that shipped with Word, not
ones I created) was indented because the Normal style had a first-line
indent.
