Default Edit Downloaded Templates

I've downloaded several Word 2007 templates from Microsoft and want to edit
them. It does not appear any protection has been applied, but I cannot change
anything in the document. I can only fill in the blanks (a survey is the
template I downloaded).

From your description, it certainly seems as if document protection has been
applied. Have you looked at the Restrict Formatting and Editing pane for a
Stop Protection button?

To display the Restrict Formatting and Editing pane:

1. If necessary, display the Developer tab of the ribbon: Click the Office
button, and then click Word Options. In the Popular category, select "Show
Developer tab in the Ribbon" and click OK.

2. On the Developer tab, click Document Protection.

Actually, the command is "Protect Document" (not "Document Protection").
