Change Default Horizontal Line Formatting: Word 2007
I use horizontal lines a lot in my documents, but I always want them to be solid color black lines as opposed to the shadowed gray version which appears by default when using the "InsertHorizontalLine" command. I get tired of constantly having to right click and change the formatting, but have never found any sort of style relating to these horizontal lines.
Thus, my question is whether anyone is aware of a way to change the DEFAULT formatting for inserted horizontal lines? Thanks so much for any help you can offer! |

Instead of using the InsertHorizontalLine command, you could use AutoText.
Insert the line, format it as desired, and save it as an AutoText entry or Quick Part (Alt+F3). This is a little less useful in Word 2007 than in any other version of Word because Word 2007 doesn't have AutoComplete suggestions for AutoText entries, but you can still type the first few letters of the entry name and press F3 to insert it. Alternatively, why not use a border? Define a paragraph style that has a top border (formatting the border line as desired and using the Border Options to separate it from the text the desired distance) and some Spacing Before. Make the "Style for following paragraph" of this style your normal body text style. I do something similar with Body Text Space Before (which has 12 points Spacing Before); it doesn't have a line, but the following style is set as Body Text so that the spacing between paragraphs returns to normal. -- Suzanne S. I'd like an answer to this too. Suzanne suggests not using them... mm... I'd like to use them but have them look like how I want.
