how to remove automatic virus scanning ?
Whenever Word opens a new document, it automatically runs a virus scan (blue
bar in bottom left hand corner). Is there a way to turn this off? THanks.

That's not Word - I would look into your AV software for a way to control

If you're using Symantec/Norton AntiVirus, try disabling the
Office Plugin that comes with it. See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329820 "How to use Office programs with the Norton AntiVirus Office plug-in" for more information.
