Default The Office Assistant could not be started.

I'm in an org with about 70 users. Most workstations are running WinXP
and Office 2K. We recently went to Exchange 2003 and updated
workstations to Outlook 2003.

I have 2 machines now that when attempting to open an Office 2k program
throw the error/message 'The Office Assistant could not be started.
Please repair the Assistant by running Office 2000 setup and selecting
'Repair Office 2000'.'. It is more of an annoyance than a problem for
me, but some users like the little paper clip telling them what to do
all the time.

Obviously I've tried repairing from the disk...I've also run 'Detect
and Repair.'
The only MS support KB article is
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=236822 which suggests adjusting
virtual memory. This was also tried with no positive results.

Has anyone else run into this problem and successfully corrected it?
Thanks in advance for any advice given.

Only 2 machines? I noticed it when I started here a few weeks ago. We have
the exact same setup and found the reason was 2 different versions of office
running. When you open an office application for the first time everything
should seem fine, however any subsequent openings will bring up the error
message. I've looked and haven't found anything for a fix. People here
either are used to it, or they just turn the office assistant off.
It would be nice to hear about a fix tho.

I've got the same setup too - only a handful of people are affected. Would
be nice to hear about a fix. How do you know it's from 2 versions? I'm of
the same opinion but would like to have some documented proof since the
errors are bugging a few higher-ups.
