custom templates usable by all users
I understand custom created templates are stored in the profile of the user
that created them. But is there a way to configure it where any user who logs onto that machine can get the same template? or do I have to copy paste this template in all the user profile folders? |

Put the template in any folder that can be accessed by all of the profiles. In Word in each profile, go to Tools Options File Locations, and set the Workgroup Templates location to point to that folder. The same mechanism works with a location on a file server that can be accessed from multiple computers on a network. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org |

As Jay said, you need to be using a workgroup templates folder. For more on
the different kinds of templates, tabs on the file new dialog, and locations of templates folders see http://addbalance.com/usersguide/templates.htm. -- Charles Kenyon Word New User FAQ & Web Directory: http://addbalance.com/word Intermediate User's Guide to Microsoft Word (supplemented version of Microsoft's Legal Users' Guide) http://addbalance.com/usersguide See also the MVP FAQ: http://www.mvps.org/word which is awesome! --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- This message is posted to a newsgroup. Thanks for the reply but unfortunately this would not be feasible in our
network of over a thousand users and the profiles are all stored locally. We were hoping that there is some way to configure MS Office to always look at the All Users folder from the getgo. Again, a key component is the workgroup templates folder. You can have this
be a part of each user's local profile if you want, with the network login updating the user's workgroup templates folder from a master. This is a separate folder stored somewhere other than in the User Templates folder. I am confident that you can set all installations to look to a particular folder for workgroup templates. Note, when users create templates they will need to either send them to you (or another network administrator) or have the ability to add to the master workgroup templates folder. With thousands of users, I wouldn't recommend the latter. Note, you do _not_ want users sharing a user templates folder or normal.dot.
