Default opening word documents

I have windows xp on a new dell. I don't have word, but I downloaded the
read word program and transfered word documents from my old laptop. When I
try to open a word document I get a message that there is a "dialogue box
open" and am told to close the "dialogue box" then open the document. What
does that mean and what should I do. You can see that I am not very
experienced, so please help with detail if possible ed

If you are using Symantec/Norton AntiVirus, try disabling the Office
Plugin that comes with it, but do not disable Norton AutoProtect). See
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329820 "How to use Office programs
with the Norton AntiVirus Office plug-in" for more information.
