Copying built-in styles to a remote location
Word 2003
I have setup a custom numbering style for a document based upon the built-in headings. I need to copy this document, hopefully with the styles intact, to a computer at a remote location via the Internet. Is there a way to copy the original document and paste it within the remote computer so that I am able to retain my custom numbering styles and have them apply to the newly pasted document, overriding the bult-in styles that currently reside in what would be a blank document? Since the remote location is only accessible via the Internet, I find that I am unable to use the "organizer" feature. Thanks in advance for any thoughts, solutions or suggestions. Rod |

If you copy the entire document, it should take all its styles and numbering

Copying built-in styles to a remote location
MSWord 2003.
Yes Suzanne. That's true. However, when pasting the entire document into MSWord on the remote computer; the styles, along with the numbering setup, take on the characteristics of the built -in styles as they may already exist in the designation "blank document" on the remote computer. What I'm attempting to circumvent is the reformatting of the document styles and the numbering setup once it is pasted into MSWord on the remote computer. In other words, so that the document appears on the remote computer exactly as it appears oriinally on the local computer. Perhaps something like a "portable" version of the styles and numbeing setup that I can apply to the remote computer as I paste in the entire document. Thanks so much again, Rod "Suzanne S. Copying built-in styles to a remote location
Are you copy/pasting the document itself (through Windows Explorer) or the
document content? If you paste the content into a new blank document on another computer, then certainly it will take on the document styles. If you're just pasting the document, this should not happen unless (a) it is attached to Normal.dot on your computer and (b) Normal.dot on the other computer is set to "Automatically update document styles" (Tools | Templates and Add-ins). Copying built-in styles to a remote location
Suzanne:
As always, thanks so very much. I really do appreciate what you and all of the many contributors do for us through your responses and inisight for the "community." I'm going to put your thoughts and suggestions into play and read through the attached article from the link that you sent to see if that cures what ails me. I've found Shauna's site to be very helpful with previous situations for which I had questions. Thanks Again - Rod "Suzanne S.
