Default need to stop set formats from changing

I was provided a template with set formatting for a thesis project. As I'm
forming my thesis project the set formats continully change. My alignments,
and tabs are off. How do I stay within the set formats provided with the
template. Is there something I can turn off to keep aligned? I'm using
Microsoft Word 2003.

Make use of styles to format your documents. See
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/stylesms/index.html.

Another thing to consider: If changes to individual paragraphs of text are
propagated across the document, see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting...eformatted.htm.

If you are having a different kind of problem, post back.
