Default attachments won't open because I have open dialogue boxes

The dialog box being referred to doesn't necessarily mean it is in Word. For
instance, if you have Outlook, or any other application, open and a dialog
box is active, you have to close it before you can continue.

The most common one is when you have Outlook open, the 'auto archive' dialog
box appears on its own periodically, obviously asking you if you want to
archive.

You need to ensure that you have no dialogs open whatsoever in any
application.
