The problem is with your accounting software package. It is messing with
normal.dot. There is no reason for a competent programer to be doing this! I
have had no problems with Word's normal.dot file in over a year and I use it
for hours each day, with more than 15 add-ins. Word 97's normal.dot seemed
to be more prone to corruption.
Try checking the option to prompt to save changes to normal.dot.
Tools Options Save
Then you'll see when an attempt is made to mess with it and you can say no.
This option should always be checked. Unless it was mission critical, I
would consider getting rid of any software that triggered this every time it
is used.

What is it about word that makes the normal.dot so easily corruptable? Is
it
a problem with word or an outside source? One of the accounting software
packages we use causes us to have to delete the normal.dot file more
within
the last month than I have ever had to since I started using word I don't
know how many years ago. It also happens with the .xlb in excel a lot
too.
Thanks so much.
