Default How change the default so that Markup is OFF when word starts

I am working with Word 2003.

basically, i don't want to track changes, and don't want markup highlighted.
I tried 'unchecking' it under the Security options, but when i close and
then restart Word, it is on! If, as you say, that Microsoft has made it a
default, then i guess i am stuck with it!

Thanks for your help. I am a relatively unskilled Word girl, so i have
never written a Macro!

Does anyone know the answer? When i forget to turn off Markup and start
working on a document, it causes unbelievable aggravation. Is there a way to
make it OFF as the default, instead of ON?

Unfortunately, you don't mention which version of Word you have... Nor am I
certain I completely understand what you're asking.

Microsoft made DISPLAY of markup default after publication of a number of
embarassing incidents where documents containing markup were accidentally sent
out-of-house. Companies weren't happy with that :-)

In most recent versions of Word you can change "Make hidden markup visible when
opening or saving" under Tools/Options/Security.

If you mean you're forgetting to turn off change tracking, then best you could
do would be a macro named AutoOpen stored in your Normal.dot template. Record
turning off change tracking in a macro and that should do it (although you'll
want to check the result to make sure it's actually turning it off (setting to
True or False) rather than toggling (making the opposite of the current
setting).
