There isn't a built-in AutoSave option in Word. AutoRecover is for
'emergency use only'. If Word should happen to crash or if you lose
power the AutoRecover saved version of the document will be available
the next time you start Word. A Background save means you want to
continue working instead of waiting for the save to complete.

There is an AutoSave add-in available in Macros9.dot which can be
downloaded from:
