A Style Separator can also be used for this. It has the benefit (?) of
remaining hidden even when nonprinting characters are displayed. That said,
I haven't ever had the courage to trust one. g

One way is to break the paragraph at the desired location, by pressing
Enter. Then format the paragraph mark (¶) as hidden. For example:

The task will be easier if you display nonprinting marks; you can use
Ctrl+Shift+8 to toggle their display.
Clear the "Hidden text" option on the Print tab of Tools | Options; this
ensures that the figures will print correctly.
If the table of figures is based on styles rather than on caption
labels, you will also have to apply a different paragraph style to the
paragraph after the break (that is, to the "follows here" paragraph in
my example).
