Ok, I did all the steps you wrote about to format the autotext but it
is a
PIA when you are in the middle of typing to stop, go up to Quick Parts
to
insert the part that you want. In MSword, it would come WHILE you were
typing, you hit enter and it was there....that is what I am looking
for...I
am a Medical transcriptionist and I have ALOT of autotexts saved and
use
it
dearly! How do I get it to do that?

AutoText is now called Building Blocks. First see if your entries are
still
available, on the Insert tab, click Quick Parts and then click
Building
Blocks Organizer. If there were AutoText entries then click the
Gallery
heading to sort and if they are there you should see AutoText.
If not then where were they located previously? Did you upgrade from
another
version on the same computer? If they were stored in Normal.dot on
your
previous version, search for Normal.dot to locate it. Once found, you
have a
few choices to migrate your AutoText entries:
1). Open Normal.dot, display the Building Blocks Organizer, select the
AutoText entries and then click Edit Properties. Change the template
to
Building Blocks.dotx and change the Gallery to Quick Parts. (Or leave
the
gallery as AutoText if you want to add a specific gallery for AutoText
on
your Quick Access Toolbar - see additional information below on how to
do
this.)
2) Open Normal.dot, click the Microsoft Office Button and then click
convert. Save Normal.dot using a new name (just so it's isn't
confusing
later) and place it in one of the following locations depending on
your
operating system:
* Windows Vista:
C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\ Document Building
Blocks\
* For Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application
Data\Microsoft\Document
Building Blocks
Exit and restart Word to make the entries available.
3) Exit Word and locate Normal.dotm. Change the name to
OldNormal.dotm.
Place Normal.dot in the same location as Normal.dotm. Right-click
Normal.dot
and then click Open. Click the Microsoft Office Button and then click
Convert. Save the file as Normal.dot. Word will automatically change
it
to
Normal.dotm and your AutoText entries will be available.
Whichever method you use, to access your AutoText entries easily, you
can
either use the Building Blocks Organizer and change the gallery to
Quick
Parts, then they'll be available when you click Quick Parts or you can
add a
gallery for your AutoText entries on your Quick Access Toolbar by
following
these steps:
1). Right-click the Quick Access Toolbar and then click Customize
Quick
Access Toolbar
2) From the Choose Commands From list, select Commands Not In the
Ribbon
3) Locate AutoText and then add it to your Quick Access Toolbar.
If you can't locate your older AutoText entries then you can recreate
them
using these steps:
1) Type the entry in a document
2) Select the text
3) On the Insert tab, click Quick Styles, and then click Save
Selection
to
Quick Part gallery (or press Alt+F3)
4) Assign a name and if desired, add a Category, or if they are
specific
to
a gallery, such as you have AutoText for Headers and Footers, assign a
gallery, and add a Description. You should save your entries in
Building
Blocks.dotx instead of Normal.dotm so they'll all be in the same
place.
