Default Same stylesheet creates problems

Note that if you want to preserve formatting of an inserted document, make
sure that it uses unique styles. Or, if you are using a Word version that
supports paste option buttons, choose to keep the formatting of the source
after pasting.

On the other hand, if you are trying to get rid of direct font formatting,
you can select the text and press Ctrl+SpaceBar.

I have two files, both rely on normal.dot. When separate, both behave. But
when I insert one into another, all styles of the one inserted in change
their respective font attributes. e.g. I use Verdana & Palatino for
different paras. After inserting a file, fonts in paragraph suddenlyi)
interchange, get mixed (roman to italics, or bold) why is this happening?
Thanks
