Default hide caption number/SEQ field

There's really no reason to use Insert | Reference | Caption at all if you
don't want the captions numbered. You can just type the caption in a text
paragraph. If you apply the Caption style, you can still create a Table of
Figures based on that style (you won't be able to use the default automatic
TOF because it looks for the SEQ fields), or you can use any unique style
and create either a TOF or a TOC based on that style.

If the graphics that you're captioning are wrapped, Word is inserting your
captions in a text box, which is already a bad idea because (idiotically) in
versions before Word 2007, the TOF can't find captions in text boxes. The
workaround for that, if you really need the figure and caption to be
wrapped, is to insert both figure and caption In Line With Text (in separate
paragraphs) and then insert a frame around them.

I'm pretty new to this. So how do I turn caption numbering off?

I use Microsoft Word 2003. I currently have SEQ numbers before all of
my
figure and table captions. Is there a way to hide this caption number
so
that it doesn't appear on screen or when printed? Hopefully there is a
quick
and easy solution. Thanks!
