Only if it bothers you that you will lose every bit and byte of data
(system, applications, files) stored on it.
Reformatting a hard drive is the absolute last resort. (Though you
could get a new hard drive, reinstall just your operating system, and
make your old hard drive into an external drive, copying over data and
reinstalling programs as you need them.)

I appreciate your help but it did not make a difference. *Someone suggested
reformatting the hard drive. *Never done that before but it sounds like a
pain.

Thanks. *Got the first round of tmps deleted but when searching in the
folders where my docs are stored, found more. *Tried to move them to the
recycle bin and an error message states "cannot delete file: cannot read from
the source file or disk"
Is this normal??

The bulk of the page concerns the removal of temporary files. This is the
part you need to attend to before Word is restarted.

Maybe. *I have many, many problems with word right now and was
trying to fix them. *Thought this might help. *The other solutions
people have mentioned are incredibliy complicated for me and I
started on one of them but I do not have a file or something that
is part of the instructions so I can't do that one. *Just wish this
software would actually function.

It could be that because of updates you have already applied, the
update you think you need is inappropriate for your setup.

Thanks. *It is set for auto updates but I did try the link above
and it downloaded a few things. *I looked at my history and the
security update that I am trying to download for word is not on
the list of things that I downloaded. JoAnn Paules

Trying to do the 10/07 word update and after downloading, I
click on the file
(exe) and a box pops up stating "the expected version of the
product was not
found on your system"
What does this mean and how can I get the security update?-
