Default Index and bookmarks or hyperlinks

I agree, this would be a really good feature

Thanks for the link. This is the long and slow process that I am working on.
I just hope there are no more edits for the page numbers to change. I fear
if I take out the page numbers in the hyper link on the Index pages, some of
the paper holdouts will get upset. I just find it hard to believe that Word
does not have this functionality. They have it in the Table of Contents!

I think you're right. I found a workaround that might work for you:

I used insert index but it only lists the items that I marked to be included
with the index and their page numbers. I am looking for a way to link to
those items in the document since my company works in a paperless environment
as much as possible.

I have since found naother post that describes the problem that I am having
and other posts there indicated that it is not possible in Word 2003.

Thanks for your suggestion though.

If you use the Word feature "insert index", it does all the linking for you.

Help. I know there must be a quick way to do this. I have created an index
at the end of a large Word 2003 document. I am trying to find out out those
index enteries can be bookmarked or quickly linked to the item in the
document that they list the page numbers for.
