For 2003 and prior.
Insert, Object, Create from File, check the Display as icon box, browse for
the file you want. In the File Name box, this could show the whole file path
which could be a bit long for the icon displaid in Word, so Edit this down to
what you to be shown. OK.
For 2007 the instructions could be different.
