Default Disappearing Bullets And Messed Up FormaTting In Word 2007

It's a brand new document created in Word 2007 and the bullet list was
created with styles. It's very mind-boggling!

I have a running list of bulleted discussion points for a weekly meeting.
There are main points with indented sub-points. It saves fine but when I
reopen the document, the main points and sub-points have switched indents.
Not only that, the main points now do not have a bullet showing but when you
highlight it or click on it, it still shows that it is bulleted. (Print
Preview does not show the bullets either.)

I am using WinXP Pro SP3, Word 2007, and working in Print Layout. I hope
someone can help because I can't be fixing the list each time I open it up.
Please and thank you!!

has this document been created in an older version of Word? Is it in
legacy format (*.doc) or in the new one (*.docx)? Does it use a lot of
direct formatting (especially at the numbered paragraphs)?

Numbering may be at its most stable in Word when it's done via styles,
and in Word 2007 that definitely means you need a list style, best
linked to paragraph styles of the given level.

The following article explains how to create a new list style:
